Kolae

I really enjoyed my visit over the weekend. I was very keen to try Kolae as it had been recommended by a friend and on the whole I was not disappointed.

We didn’t order a lot of the food on this occasion so I’d definitely like to go back and try some other dishes what we did have was incredibly flavourful and in some instances, very spicy,  the pepper chicken made me lose my voice. It was so spicy but so delicious. Luckily, our server recommended a cooling drink to soothe my throat.

I really liked the building and the place had a really nice vibe, although as is often the case, the toilets were a bit messy.

We were on the top floor and I don’t think there was a lift. I think we went up three flights of stairs to a smaller, lovely space, so do you bear that in mind when booking.

We felt rushed at the end but we did have a two hour booking limit. Another 15 mins would have been good.

Stand out was the kale, surprisingly, and the pork.

Recommended.

One of the best meals we've ever eaten. The lunchtime set menu is a brilliant deal, the prawns, butternut squash, fish curry and rice pudding dessert are all total world class.The guy from Alsace who looked after us was brilliant, friendly  helpful and kind. He did a brilliant job.One of the worlds best restaurants in my book, it was amazing, thanks for a lovely and memorable afternoon Kolae.

We had reservations for this very popular place near borough market. We ordered two curries and one salad for our meal. We ordered a wine and a beer. The prawn curry was super spicy which is fine as I like spicy but the curry was too thin and it was okay. We ordered a fish curry which was very good. The mango and cucumber salad was very good and so was the coconut sorbet. It was a good refreshing finish after the meal.

Utterly exceptional! Genuine Thai food, should come with a warning for how good it is! I had the set menu which had a fantastic mix of the general menu. Great drinks selection, especially curated to complement the food. Lovely atmosphere, super helpful staff. I would eat here ever day if I could. My new favourite place for sure!

Really great meal at Kolae today. Real punchy Thai flavours, all fresh and very well presented. Mussel skewer, crispy kale fritters and stone bass curry our favourites but everything was really good. service was also very good and helpful. Would definitely recommend

Koko Grill Korean BBQ Restaurant

Great food! We walked past this restaurant and decided to give it a try — surprisingly, it turned out to be very good!

As my first time having Korean bbq I cannot complain. I really enjoyed the food especially the pancakes and the seaweed rice dumplings but also the bbq was tasty maybe too hot for me but that’s just my personal taste. All the staff were so polite and nice I will definitely go back.

Really delicious food, great value for money and excellent service. The place itself is very clean and spacious. It does get busy at night so do make reservations especially for BBQ - the staff are really really fast and food comes really fast too so you should be ok walking up for non-BBQ but book for BBQ.

Food is really tasty and good portion size. I would say one of the best around SE1. We ordered 2 mains, 2 rice and kimchi assortment; and we were so full!

We are so happy we have a local Korean restaurant now! Will be back more!

Brigadiers

The day after, and I’m still thinking about how good this food was. I’ve been getting used to eating Asian cuisine, so some flavors don’t surprise me the way they did when I first started exploring food tasting. Brigadiers, however, did the trick. Every dish was extremely flavorful and well-balanced. You could distinguish each ingredient, and none overpowered the other. That applied to everything we ordered.

The service was excellent too: fast even on a packed night. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable, and thanks to her recommendations, we were able to make better pairings that elevated the whole experience.

As for the atmosphere, it’s a sports bar, which gave it a lively vibe, yet it still managed to feel cozy and intimate. Very versatile energy overall. The décor was also a nice surprise. I especially loved the hallway leading to the bathrooms.

Brigadiers is a solid Indian spot, buzzing with corporate & casual folks alike. The space is designed to give off an upscale yet relaxed Anglo Indian vibe. What really steals the show is the food. Absolutely delicious. You order their grilled meats or potatoes or even a humble daal and they season it with magical umami that results in a lip smacking, satisfying experience. Butter chicken wings are a tad overhyped- the flavors are lovely but it’s too rich on butter. The Achari paneer is amazing. Service is very good despite how busy they are. I highly recommend Brigadiers for a remarkable gastronomic experience.

Booked us a reservation for two for a last-minute dinner. The ambiance and décor are wonderful. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly. The restaurant and bar were packed, so making a reservation is a must. Our reservation was a little late; we arrived earlier in hopes that we could get in, but in the end, we ended up only getting our table at the designated time.

Deeply disappointed with the food.. the flavour is there the quality I want to say is there too but I can’t 100% say because the spice is very strong it could mask any food that may not be fresh, but this is not what I’m here for - I am here to talk about our experience the first time ever eating here.

The beef and marrow biryani - the beef was phenomenally spicy - my wife and I eat regularly Sichuan food so we know spicy. The beef was so spicy it wasn’t enjoyable at all..

The guinea fowl kebabs - these specific kebabs must have been 90% salt because we couldn’t taste anything else - each bite felt like a spoon full of salt - horrible.

The goat shoulder curry - goat has a taste I know this but this goat tasted proper nasty, very strong foul goat taste I though I was gonna throw up at the table we took one bite each and left it.

The bread was ok.

Extremely disappointed overall the chef was very heavy handed with the spices - not worth the money at all.

Brigadiers shouldn’t be this good. One of nine “independent” restaurants - including BAO, Bleecker Burger and Homeslice; did they think we just wouldn’t notice? - among the units either side of a walkway bisecting Bloomberg’s billion-pound, two-building European headquarters smack in the middle of the City, each demarcated by homogeneous management consultancy beige-on-black signage, it offers commercial bookings for up to 200 people and private rooms complete with flat screens and Sky Sports. As much as a place can be “inspired by the army mess rooms of India”, you can’t really imagine the military regiments over there wearing chinos and light blue Charles Tyrwhitt shirts, lining their stomachs with self-pour espresso martinis from the tap and £9 popadoms while they watch the Club World Cup.

Mercifully, we went on a Saturday, and it was actually quite nice. We sat on the terrace, on the Bloomberg Arcade itself, which though not exactly charming, was quiet, and points vaguely west, meaning on the clear and balmy summer evening that it was, as the waiters were in no hurry to move us along, we saw the sky move slowly through the full first third of the colour spectrum as we perused the menu and chatted and ordered and drank and ate and chatted and ordered some more.

First up were the achari chicken skins, Afghani lamb and lasooni chicken skewers, and the Indo-Chinese paneer lettuce cups. I’m a sucker for anything “Indo-Chinese”, its appearance on a menu implying a kind of confident alchemic ability in the chefs through tireless trial and error in the kitchens of ancient multicultural kitchens to combine uncomplimentary ingredients into a coherent and delicious end product utterly unreplicable in my own ethnically homogeneous household. That’s would be a bit of a stretch here - the paneer had just been splashed with a bit of soy, but very skillfully and tastily - and so despite the high quality of the skewered meat and their thoughtful marinades and dipping sauces the chicken skins, crunchy vehicles for dollops of spiced minced glory, were my favourite.

In case you’ve not worked it out by now, Brigadiers is not your local curryhouse. In fact, there weren’t any curries on the menu at all - not a korma, jalfrezi or vindaloo in sight. Instead, after much deliberation, we got an aubergine biryani, tandoori lamb chops and wood-fired kid goat shoulder, as well as a dal markhani and naans between us. I don’t think any of them quite hit the same heights as the starters - although the silky, cumined, gingery goat came closest - but I’d have been happy with any of them as my own individual main. It all just felt like really high-quality cooking of high-quality ingredients in not overly complicated or complex but time-honoured and well-honed flavours , and the fact we were able to graze across all of them over a couple of hours - as well as the extremely decent cocktails too - made for a very pleasant evening indeed.

Jang Restaurant

This was an amazing experience with top quality food.
We were served by Rebecca, Neda and Jose who where all very welcoming and helpful.
The restaurant is beautiful and nice and relaxing atmosphere. They even kindly changed the chair for me to fit my preference.
We had the sushi to start which was the best sushi I've ever had. I then had the lobster which was tender and flavorful in a delicious creamy broth with noodles and a side of kimchi which tasted really authentic. One of us had the duck which was cooked medium rare as requested and the broccoli which was seasoned really nicely. And lastly 2 of us had the sharing platter and added wagyu. All the meats where cooked to our preference and seasoned well and it came with lots of sides my favourite was the seaweed salad and loads of sauces to try with the meats as well as some rise.
We also had some lovely cocktails presented very nicely as well as a lovely birthday suprise.
Definitely worth a visit couldn't recommend enough hopefully we'll get to go back soon.

A very wonderful place to take an afternoon tea. This place is preferred to book in advance due to a lot of people. I can describe this place as a romantic quiet place where you can have some of quiescence. The view from up is also another interesting point. The atmosphere with the red colors is giving the impression of an awesome view. Honestly I have enjoyed the experience and I strongly recommend everyone to try and to get some of quiescence. One more thing that staff are so friendly really big thanks to the whole entire involved people for making such great experiences.

We had a truly wonderful afternoon tea experience, thanks to Jaqueline and Rebecca.

Jaqueline warmly welcomed us, personally escorted us to our table, and made sure we were seated by the balcony as requested. Rebecca was absolutely charming and explained the menu with ease. She also kindly accommodated my partner’s dietary preference by adjusting the selection and offering extra salmon sandwiches without mayonnaise.

The presentation was beautiful, and we especially appreciated Rebecca’s attention to detail—she even changed our plates just before we enjoyed the desserts.

Thank you both for making our visit so special. It was a delightful experience, and we would highly recommend it.

I had lunch at Jang today, and it was such a great experience. The food was delicious, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service made the meal even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely come back again!

I absolutely loved my experience at Jang! Our server Neda was so friendly and her recommendations all hit the spot!

The Wagyu Korean BBQ was stunning and we loved that it was smoked at the table and had 3 condiments we could pair it with! The sushi was presented beautifully and the Korean fried chicken bites were gorgeous!
